School Library Journal gives THE LAST UNEXPLORED PLACE ON EARTH a starred review
So excited to share another starred review for THE LAST UNEXPLORED PLACE ON EARTH! Here’s the entire review from School Library Journal: Gr 4-7–People have explored every continent in our world, and yet the ocean is still mostly untouched. That’s where the submarine Alvin comes in. The vessel has helped discover amazing things in the ocean, such as the Titanic’s wreckage, volcanic ridges, wrecks at the bottom of the Black Sea, seemingly impossible life at the bottom of the ocean, and more! All of this is possible in a tiny sub that only fits three people and can go up to 21,000-ft below the surface of the ocean. This fascinating…

‘The Last Unexplored Place on Earth’ receives starred Kirkus review
THE LAST UNEXPLORED PLACE ON EARTH recently received a starred Kirkus review! Here’s the full review: A tribute to the submersible Alvin, which has played an important role in undersea research for over a half century. In its thousands of dives, the durable vessel, launched in 1964, has been attacked by swordfish, flooded and recovered, and used to search for a lost hydrogen bomb. Alvin has also carried scientists to uniquely remote edges of continental plates for first encounters with hydrothermal vents, explored the ruins of the Titanic and the devastation of the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, and made possible the discovery of uncounted new species of deep-sea life. After setting the stage with properly…

Alvin Book Named a Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selection
Exciting news! My upcoming release has been named a Junior Library Guild Gold Standard! Since 1929, the Guild has curated books for libraries, and about 95% of those selected go on to win awards and industry accolades. The nonfiction middle grade book, “The Last Unexplored Place on Earth: Investigating the Ocean Floor with Alvin the Submersible,” will be released in fall 2023 from Feiwel and Friends, a Macmillan imprint. Having selected it as a Gold Standard, the Guild will then distribute copies to its library members. The story follows the creation and scientific discoveries made using a human-operated submersible named Alvin, which can carry three people to the bottom of…

Book Deal Announcement!! “The Last Unexplored Place on Earth” (2023)
Taking a dive with Human Occupied Vehicle Alvin Submersible, kids will learn about the magical world found in the deepest parts of the ocean. Since it was first commissioned on the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution dock in 1964, this historic sub (which is still in operation, btw) has helped scientists uncover fascinating creatures and confirm important scientific theories. While “soaring” past mountains deep below the water’s surface inside Alvin, scientists have also uncovered evidence that has changed our entire understanding of where and how life can begin. What does this mean about the possibility of life on other planets? Come discover the wonder with Alvin!
